Ealing Hockey Club vs Imperial College Hockey Club - Mixed Friendly Saturday 30th May 2026 - Match report by Rachel

As we arrived at 🌞Costa del W5, we were greeted by a huge squad of Imperial College Hockey Club students already warming up! Genius move all arriving early and all at once to out-psych the opposition on our own pitch…

It worked…

Nothing strikes fear into the hearts of some of the more age-challenged members of the Ealing adult teams, than a huge group of 20-year-olds stretching with ease while managing to chat and laugh together with not a massage gun or foam roller in sight…

As the Ealing team leisurely strolled in, Captain Alex gathered them to coordinate a slick looking warm up. Ealing alumna Ellie turned up in her old bright orange junior kit with a hangover, while Mum of 3 little hockey players, Jenna, made her impressive debut for EHC. A lot of discussion followed from both sides as they tried to manage mixed teams with random players in varied positions. Ealing lucked out with the acquisition of three of Imperial’s players to even the numbers (and average age) up a bit.

To the game – quarters due to the heat created a fast pace with dynamic ball skills and expert passing from both sides. Lots of subbing in and out led to some confusion about who was playing where. Both sides kept attacking well and the borrowed Imperial players turned out to be the best signings of the season for Ealing, grabbing two goals each! Huge respect to the goalkeepers for withstanding extreme heat in full padding.

Lots of fun was had by all - even the goats braved the heat to come out to watch!
