An impressive start by Ealing, with some good passes and a goal from Daisy after 3 minutes. Wayfarers came straight back with a goal of their own 1 min later. There was then some pressure from Wayfarers, with a short corner, followed by a short corner for Ealing, only Wayfarers to follow minutes later with a goal from open play, going ahead in the match after 17 minutes of play.
This was the start of a period of dominance by Wayfarers, another goal after 22 minutes, a short corner won 2 minutes later, then a 4th goal after 29 minutes. Minutes later they won and scored a penalty, then 6th goal from a short corner on the stroke of half time.
Wayfarers continued to put pressure on at the start of the second half with an early goal, however the teams appeared much better matched for most of the second half with action at both ends. There was a period of pressure from Ealing, with excellent work from Lara to keep the ball. Two short corners were won by Ealing in quick succession in the 51st and 52nd minutes. There was an excellent opportunity for Ealing after Daisy and Olivia linked up well. Another short corner was awarded to Ealing on 57 minutes, but unfortunately they weren’t able to score.
Wayfarers won 2 further short corners in the 62nd minute and scored their 8th and final goal from the last short corner in the 66th minute.
It was an unlucky day for Ealing, largely down to a couple of outstanding Wayfarers players. Final score 1-8 to Wayfarers but it was a good team effort and well done to all the defenders who fought tirelessly throughout the match.
Special thanks to the U16 players who have made it possible for the U18s to field a full and competitive team this season. It was the final match in the Junior section for Zoe, Daisy, Maria, Kara and Lettie, they have all played a valuable part in the team’s success. Well done and good luck to them.
